Recently replaced the toner cartridge with a new HP cartridge. Print jobs now come out with the letters smeared and occasionally seeing black spots on the back of the page.  After running a dozen or so cleaning pages it worked normally for 2 pages before the issue came back.

Would this most likely be a defective/damaged/leaking toner cartridge? Anything else it could be?

Is the image, even though defective bonded well to the page? If so, most likely bad cartridge. If toner is not well bonded then you may have a bad fuser.
