HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw (Model: CF379A)
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I’m a Mac-User printing with the HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw (Model: CF379A) on glossy photo paper…

It's printing too dark - lower light photos are black and not visible/useable. Any way to fix it?

The laserjet might not be able to meet your expectations for high definition glossy photo prints.  Inkjets tend to perform better in this area.

You can attempt to impact the results in a few ways:

1. Try different photo paper, a different brand may work better with your current toner cartridges.

2. Try different toner.  The printer is calibrated for HP originals so using 3rd party comes at a small risk for image quality.

3. Modify the photos with photo editing software before attempting to print.  Attempt to lighten the images via software for better physical printing results.

4. Calibrate the laserjet.  There is a chance the printer can make some minor corrections on the hardware side to produce more accurate results.

One way to tell if the problem is the media or the toner is to print the same image on a normal sheet of paper.  If the job is still dark then you know its not the glossy photo paper.
