Hi,

I bought this printer a few months ago and like it very much. My printer is now indicating that all the cartridges are low, though that's been the case for a couple of weeks. Only this morning is the black now showing up a bit weakly on the page.Buying four new cartridges at the same time is VERY expensive, and I'm wondering a) if I could just replace the black for now and b) how would I know when the other cartridges really need to be replaced (the weak black printing is obvious enough but I'm not sure about other colors),  and c) whether you just need to bite the bullet and replace all four at once every time.

Maybe a related question is: Does the black toner run out more frequently than the others typically speaking? If so, and I go ahead and replace it today, will it become visibly clear when I need to replace the other three? (And is there any downside to doing it this piecemeal way?)

Thanks

Re: "Does the black toner run out more frequently than the others typically speaking?"

Answer: Yes. Typically you print more things using black than any other color, unless you do a lot of large color photo/picture type prints.

Re: " if I could just replace the black for now"

Answer: Yes. You can replace the individual colors as you wish.

Re: "how would I know when the other cartridges really need to be replaced"

Answer: When they become faint/weak or has areas missing that color.

Re: "And is there any downside to doing it this piecemeal way?"

Answer: Not really. If you do a lot of color printing, the other colors may run out in mid print, then you'll have to reprint after the problem color is replaced.
