I am about to replace the document feeder unit on a M525 Flow. The flat cable seems to be routed to the formatter in a complicated manner. Any tips to keeps from tearing it ? Or how did it go when you did your first one. HP suggests removing entire scvanner to do it. Is this really necessary ?

Look closely at the cable you removing so that you get the correct bend in the right sections. It is a ridiculous cable layout and newer models went to a SCB mounted in the scanner instead of on the formatter. The cables are more durable than you think, the delicate part is the end with the contacts so take particular care to not damage it.
