Hi,

I have the HP Printer MFP M277dw for over 3 months now. It's working fine, but there is only one annoying issue : It keeps restarting (turning off and then on).

We don't know why.

Can you please help/advice?

best regards.

Hi @User-MFP277Dw,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!

I see that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer keeps turning off and on again. I will certainly do my best to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

It sounds like you have the Auto Off setting configured to turn the printer off.

To adjust the settings and turn the feature off see the "Economy settings" and "Conƭgure the Sleep/Auto Off After setting" in the User Guide.

Otherwise, make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector).

I hope this information is helpful. Please respond to this post with the results. Good Luck!

Hi Drakster,

Thank you for your help. I adjusted the settings following your recommendations but unfortunately my printer keeps turning off and on as it was. The error message displayed each time before it restarts is service error 79 : Turn off then on

Can you please help me figure out what is the exact issue that I should fix

Thanks in advance

Hi @User-MFP277Dw,

Thanks for getting back to me and providing more details.

If you're using an ethernet cable unplug it to see if the printer stops turning off.

To help resolve the problem. please see this post by @Ko_Nay

I found and would like to share one of the root cause of the error in my network. It is caused by unsuccessful printing process of one or more computers in the network. I could have fixed the error 79 with the following few steps.
1.Turned off power of the Printer
2.Check and Remove printing process from every computer that can have access for the printer in the network.
3.In domain network, you cannot cancel the printing process check the owner in "See What's Printing" box
4.Then log in with that account and try to remove
5.If you cannot still cancel the printing process you have to remove and add the  printer again.

After doing this steps on every computer, having access to the printer, in the network, you can switch on the printer and it should be working well.

I hope this helps. Please respond if you have any concerns. I hope you have a great day!

Dear Drakster,

Thank you for your answser but I'm Still facing the same issue.

Please note that the printer is connected to the network via WIFI (i.e no ethernet connection) and only one computer is configured to print on it.

Besides we use the "printing via email" feature.

Any idea?

thank you

Hi @User-MFP277Dw,

Thanks for getting back to me and providing more information.

I see that you're using HP ePrint via email. What we need to do is determine if there is a network problem causing the printer to turn off.

Please click here to download and install the printer's firmware update.

At this point, I want you to perform the NVRAM Reset and test the printer out. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.

NOTE: This will set the printer back to factory default settings. The network would have to be configured again.

Once you have completed the NVRAM reset, do not reconfigure the Wi-Fi yet. Leave the printer on to see of it turns off with the same error message.

If the problem persists, there is a problem with the printer.

Check Warranty Status: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

Please respond to this post with the results. Thank you for posting!
