MFP M125nw
Other

Hello,

have HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw (bought 6-7 months ago). Primary I'm using MacBook Pro 15" Retina with OS X El Capitan 10.11.4. Secondary I'm using ASUS laptop with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

I'm printing over Wifi only and my problem is:

if I printed something, it works fine. But if I want to print after 1-2 hours again, nothing will happen. Print status in laptop shows me "Printing page..." but printer unresponsives. On printer I see only Ready and IP address.

Have latest drivers.

Have you got any idea how can I fix that?

Thank you.

Here are some screenshots of printer's settings:

Greetings @Renecek,

Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! I see that you are experiencing issues printing after the printer has been idle for awhile. Thanks for providing the screen shots. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a powered hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

The product automatically wakes when it receives jobs or when you touch the screen on the product control panel. You can change which events cause the product to wake. Open the following menus to turn on all the Wake events:

System Setup
Energy Settings
Wake/Auto On Events
To turn on a wake event, select the event, and then select the Yes option.
Turn on all the Wake events if they are not already selected.

It may not be the printer, it may be your router's inability to wake the printer.
Are you using a Fixed IP?
Setup a static IP for the printer:  HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw, M125rnw, and M126nw Printers - Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connec... Go to Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address

What router are you using?
Can you get into its settings?
If you can then look for and enable "Multicasting".
If not you will have to contact the router company.

I would suggest updating the printer's firmware if the issue persists:  HP_M125-126_NW_FW_Update_20150818.exe

Hello @Gemini02,

thank you for you answer. Yesterday I gave printer to the shop where I bought it. Today they fixed my problem (they upgraded firmware). Hope it will works fine now.

Thank you

OK so it doesn't work.. If printer goes to sleep, after some minutes/hours won't print any document.

I called to shop where I bought it, they told me it worked perfect in their shop so I don't know where is a problem.

Right now I setuped manual IP address and will see if it will help me.

Tried to reset printer but it didn't help me.

I'm using ASUS RT-N66U with the latest firmware.

Where is multicasting?

Multicasting Rate(Mbps) has "auto" checked.

No ideas? Today I received printer from authorised service but it still won't print. I think there will be problem in router settings but don't know what do I need to find, turn on/off etc..

Hi @Renecek,

It looks like the Multicasting is turned on.

I would let the router automatically assign the IP address to the printer to see if you have the same results.

I have provided some settings that you can check on the router.

The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4 GHZ band.
If the router is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 GHZ. (rename the 5 GHZ or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.
Firewall on the router has to have open ports for the printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from Configuration page.
You might need to contact your router company for further assistance to check those settings.

Hope that helps. Thanks!

Hello ,

- so I removed printer from fixed IP, now router assignes IP address automatically to the printer

- my router is ASUS RT-N66U, 2.4/5GHz. Printer is connected to 2.4GHz network of course. It can't see 5GHz. I changed authentification method to WPA2-Personal and encryption to AES only

- can you tell me what ports need to be open? Can use port forward function in router, maybe it'll help

- MAC filtering is turned off

So I will wait 3-4 hours and then I'll try to print something. Will post results here.

Thank you.

I created video with all options of printer and router, maybe you'll find some bad settings.

So I tried to print now (after 1 hour). Printer status was idle. I tried to print some pdf, printer status changed to used but printer still sleeps and doesn't print.

Thanks for providing the video and router settings @Renecek. They all looked right.

Usually for the Laserjet printers I use the following DNS Address:

Preferred DNS Address: 209.244.0.3
Alternate DNS Address:209.244.0.4

Most likely that won't make any difference for the printer not waking up, though.

Here is a list of the ports to have open:

Printing:

  • UDP ports: 427, 137, 161
  • TCP port: 9100

Scanning:

  • UDP port: 427
  • TCP ports: 9220, 9500
Manually add the printer by the IPv4 address on the Mac.
Go to the Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners, click the + button, then select the IP icon across the top, type in the printer's IPv4 address, select jet direct below and then Apply.
Wait for the printer to go into sleep mode and then see if the printer wakes up by printing a document.

If you are still having issues, I would try using no Encryption just for troubleshooting purposes to see if you have the same result. If you do I can look into this issue further for you.

Let me know the results please. Thanks!
