I have started getting a Printer Offline message from my MFP M127fn and temporarily resolved it by doing a restore to an earlier time. That holds only for a day or so and then the printer returns to offline. I have spent the last week trying all the solutions I have found online for this problem but none have worked. Whenever I try to reinstall the drivers, the reinstallation sits at 99% for about 4 minutes and then tells me the install has failed for excessive time. Currently, I have no print device listed on my printer (removed as part of a solution to the problem which didn't work). I am about to buy a new (non-HP) printer as my final solution to this issue although that is not my preference since I've owned (only) HP printers for the past 30 years. Is there any (other) solution anyone can offer?

I didn't want to click on "accept as solution" because although the tech was very helpful, the options he provided did not work. I had to find another work around.

Hello, @Margaret20 - Greetings!
Thanks for reaching out! I'd like to be of your assistance 🙂
I see that you are having issues while installing the LaserJet printer on your Windows PC and the install is failed at 99%. I think I found a solution after some digging. Try the steps below and check:
DO THIS DURING THE HP INSTALL PROCESS (when the percentage counter is going)
1. Go into the device manager (Search device manager in windows search and select the same) and find the printer in the list of devices
2. Right click on the printer and select "Update Driver software"
3. Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
4. Select "Let me pick from...."
5. Select the driver named: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M127 PCL-6 (Make sure its the one with a dash between the pcl and 6!)
6. Click next and go back to the hp install box and it should now see the printer and continue the install.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Thank you for your response.
However, Iwas unable to choose a driver since I have no printer listed (even after starting the installation executable). I had removed the printer from the computer in the process of trying any number of possible solutions to my problem, so, even after starting the installation progrm, there is no printer listed among the devices. The drive installation executable I am using is is downloaded LJPro_MFP_M127-M128_full_solution_15309.)
If I go to the usb controllers, I can find the HP Smart Start CD, so the device itself is known to the computer. However, the HP Smart Start CD is not listed among the devices in MY PC like other CD/DVD devices. If I try to find a driver for the HP Smart Start CD, I just get a CD driver, not a printer driver.
If I want to run the printer's internal Smart Start program, I can do so from the device manager (although that did nothing for me when I did it).

Thank you for responding to my query.
In earlier attempts to fix this problem, I had removed the printer device from my system. So when I start this process per your instructions, there is no printer listed by the Device Manager. The HP Smart Start CD, which is in the memory of the printer itself and should come up in MY PC when I connect and power on the printer, does not in fact display in MY PC. However, if I go to the device manager, usb controller tab, I can find an entry for that device (HP Smart Start CD) and can actually access the installation program that way -- but an earlier attempt to install by accessing it in this fashion gave the same error at 99%. So, I did not try to install using this program in following your instructions.
I used the downloaded file LJPro_MFP_M127-M128_full_solution_15309 to try your solution. I understood this to be the very latest installation program for the M127. But at no time did a printer device show in the device manager, so I was never able to assign a specific driver for updating.
Also, a question: from where would the printer driver HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M127 PCL-6 come and where would I find it if I did have a printer device listed?
Thank you
Margaret

Hello, @Margaret20
Ideally, the printer name should be listed in the device manager while the installation process is going on.
Also, let's try a clean install:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Restart your computer.
- Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
- Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
- Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
- Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
- Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
- Now restart your computer again.
- Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
- Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
- Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
- Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
- Click on http://hp.care/2peoGtG and install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Hope that helps! Let me know!
Cheers 🙂

As I said in my last post, I was still unable to install the printer. However, a friend suggested trying to install over a network cable, so I tried that. The first attempt (using the printer IP address) failed because of Firewall interference. After telling the Firewall to accept HP application through both private and public (I only sort of understand the meaning of this -- only private was allowed when I first looked at the settings), the installation was successful and my printer is now accessible.
Thank you for your help. I really would like to have a usb connection, but having been without any for the last week, I am just happy to have the printer available, one way or another.

Greetings @YuryKirillov,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are unable to install the printer on your computer, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
May I know the operating system installed on your computer?
How is the printer connected to your computer? USB or wireless.
Are you using a dual band router?
Note: HP Printers do not work or connect to 5Ghz networks. If you are using a dual band router, please give different names to 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz networks and connect the printer to the 2.4Ghz network.
Recommend you use the uninstall tool available at link to uninstall the printer on your computer and install it back and check.
If the issue persists, create a new user on your computer and try to configure the printer.
Let me know how it goes.
