I have set up and configured the printer and it works using a wireless connection. However, I would mainly like to use it as a printer using a conventional USB cable connection with my laptop. How do I get it to print via the cable as well as by wireless connection.

After reading your post, I understand you would like to configure your HP LaserJet printer which can be used both using USB connection as well as through Network(Wireless). Yes, you can go ahead and configure all you need to do here is to after you install the printer both using USB as well as Wireless. Please go to Control panel and Devices and Printer and you would see 2 icons, you would need to rename one as USB and other one as Network/Wireless.

For more assistance, please follow this link:

HP Color LaserJet Pro M252, M274, M277 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup

HP Printers - USB Printer Setup (Windows)

Now, I would suggest you follow the steps to install the printer software from our HP support website, and connect the USB cable only when prompted after selecting the connection type as USB.

Once you have installed it successfully, please launch Control panel - Device and Printer - On this screen, you will have 2 icons for the printer - you can go ahead and rename name the one with USB and other as Network/Wireless.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Many thanks for your assistance. I understand that the result from your instructions is that in effect one has 'two printers' and that one simply sets one version as the default and in use one selects the one that is most appropriate.
