I have followed all of your on-line directions to clear an erroneous "paper jam in tray 2" error message.  The message appeared after the printer pulled 3 sheets (at one time) of legal paper through the printer.  There is no paper stuck anywhere in the printer.  I have tried unplugging the printer, etc. to no avail.  Because of restrictions put in place by my employer, I am unable to download an updated driver as you suggested to another customer.  Help!

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

As I understand there's a paper jam error tray 2 on your HP device,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you looked for paper jams under the tray 2 single-sheet priority feed slot?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Use the following procedure to check for a paper jam in Tray 2. When a jam occurs, the control panel displays an error message (2-line control panels) or an animation (touchscreen control panels) that assists in clearing the jam.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord from the wall socket or power strip.

  2. Pull the tray completely out of the printer.

  3. Remove any jammed or damaged sheets of paper.

  4. If no jammed paper is visible, or if jammed paper is deep enough in the Tray 2 cavity that it is difficult to remove, press down on the single-sheet priority feed slot, and then remove the feed slot tray.

  5. Remove any jammed or damaged sheets of paper.

  6. Push the single-sheet priority feed slot tray into the printer.

  7. Reinsert and close Tray 2.

  8. Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet or power strip, and then press the Power button to turn the printer on.

  9. Try to print again.

If the error persists, continue to the next step to reset the printer.

Sometimes a paper jam error persists even though there is no jammed paper (false paper jam). Follow these steps to reset the printer, which might clear a false paper jam error, and then print a test page.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

       NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Try to print again to make sure that the hardware functions correctly. If the problem persist,

I have already tried all of your suggestions (several times!) previously with no luck.

@swahlgren

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

If you've already attempted all the steps suggested,

does that include contacting HP to have the printer repaired?

If not, please do as advised earlier, as it would require a hardware repair/replacement.

refer to the previous post for instructions on Contacting HP.
