Hi All,
I have recently bought a LaserJet MFP M280nw. I have a laptop running Windows 10 64-bit Ver. 1909. This computer can print without any problems on 4 other printers, but not the M280nw.
The printer and Laptop is connected wireless on the same Access Point.
Installation seems to go OK. I can add the computer to the Printers & Scanners.
When i add the Printer Windows also tells me that i can use the app. HP Smart. From here i can print Reports like Demo Page, Wireless test Report and so on. But if i use Word, Excel, Notepad, Wordpad or any browser i get an error;
Error printing on NPIxxxxx
If i try to print again windows says that the printer is in an error state.
I have tried to use the Easy Start tool.
I have tried to download the basic driver and advanced drivers. No Luck
I have used the Print Doctor without any luck.
I have made a factory reset of the printer.
Have installed and un-installed several times.
I have tried another computer, no luck. but i can use my Samsung Galaxy Phone.
Any suggestion why I get this error and how to solve the problem.
Quite annoying that i cant print on a new Printer.

Hi,
I tried the steps suggested. My problem was that the computer installed 2 instances of the printer. One for Print and one for Scan.
The issue seems to be related to the port. So im happy now.

Hi @kboeeck
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print from your PC to the printer. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Make sure you are logged in as Admin on the PC.
Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers (Skip if followed these steps already)
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions. Try printing.
If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver
Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,
I experienced the same issue on the same printer model. Its never happened on my any others printer model or previous old HP MFP printer. Anyway, i contacted HP Support.
There is a few factors which caused print error:
1) Do the clean re-installation as per advice by Kumar previously.
I noticed the printer has the new software suite release version: 3rd March 2020
2) And, do make sure you have configured the IP on TCP/IP Port. You have the same environment as mine (running on Wireless AP Infra).
Go to Setting --> Printer --> Select the said HP printer --> Printer Properties --> Look for "Ports" Tab.
Click on "Add Ports" --> Select "Standard TCP/IP" --> Click on "New Port" --> Type the printer's IP here.
Then, Tick - this newly setup IP Port for this printer. and un-tick the previous assigned port.
Restart your PC and hope this will solve your printer issue.
Hope HP really improve their products QA testing before release it in future.
Regards,
