Hi, all!
I can`t update firmware on HP LaserJet MFP M436n. Downloaded latest firmware M436_V3.82.01.20_20190708.hd from hp.com and try to update from network. Present firmware is V3.82.01.16 20180903

Does the upgrade work over USB ?

this info is worth kudos!

Well, there is such a mod and check setup for FW upgrade. However, after checking this to On, upgrade did not went through.

I guess I will live with new printer and 2 years old FW.

Have you read the Readme included in the zip?  You can use USB or network ( myself I prefer using the network, it's easier).

Thanks for your support. Of course I went over the Readme in PDF form. My preference is also updating devices using network over USB. But this time it did not work. Also, model declared in PDF is the one I have. Screenshot from 2020-05-31 18-48-32.png

Try a different web browser for a firmware upgrade.

Try connecting directly computer and printer with LAN cable ( that will eliminate possible network issue).

Try a different computer if you have  ( sometimes firmware update from WIN 10 even if it looks easy gets tricky)

Found one more post, a user having the same problem with invalid firmware message from the wizard.

I've tried with:

Windows 10 OS: Firefox, IE, Chrome, Edge

Linux OS: Chrome, Firefox

MaxOS: Safari

Same results. Except that Chrome (on both OSes) has issues with handling this page in general - I guess some css cashing issues... but I am used to that with Chrome.

It seems that either HP keeps corrupted images on their servers or this specific printer is not meant for updating.

I've check this other post as well. Next time, I will check posts BEFORE purchasing. I've always admired HP, but not any more.

Thanks for checking out for me.

Enter Tech menu. Navigate to Service functions -> F/W upgrade -> set to ON and try firmware upgrade.

You can find how to enter Tech menu if you google M436n tech menu

I am not allowed to publicly share the steps on how to enter tech menu but it's easy to find on Google. If you will have problems entering Tech menu report me back and I will send you a private message.
