Sorry HP but I sure agree... I'm trying to scan a bunch of 5" x 7" photos and it will take me many more hours having to load each one by hand than by using the ADF.

I don't understand why HP would have this limitation... Let the user decide what resolution they want. I don't think it's a firmware issue but rather a software or driver than needs to be changed.

The printer can scan a document with the ADF to 1200 dpi as easily as scanning it at 300 dpi. It will just take a little bit longer.

Sure hope your listening and will correct this in the next release of your software...

This is a transparently false answer.   There is no inherent speed limitation on the ADF scanning hardware.  The obvious evidence is that the same M477fdw the can make copies (using the scame scanning hardware) from the ADF with VERY high resolution at very high speeds.   In addition, your competition (notably the Brother MFC-L8850CDW among others) has no problem scanning from its ADF at 1200 dpi, at high rates.  So there's no network bandwidth issue either.

There is, no doubt, some marketing reason that HP has chosen to hobble the ADF scan resolution (don't want competition for your dedicated scanner products, pherhaps?)   But please don't insult our intelligence.

We use three Pro MFP M377dw in our business. As the name prefix "Pro" suggests one would expect that if 1200dpi is marketed without any obvious restrictions mentioned in any marketing document then one should be able to use 1200dpi without restrictions.

However, not only is ADF restricted to 300 dpi it also scans way too light, making yellow colors disappear.

The ADF scanner of this product is virtually useless for business purposes and the way it is marketed is fraudulent.  Selling me 1200dpi and delivering 300dpi is a scam.

Yes... As head of IT purchasing for my company I've bought dozens, if not hundreds of HP dedicated scanners and MFPs (mulit-funciton printers with scanners).  I can say that, without exception, the HP M477fdw  MFP printers I bought for our company not only produce the worst quality scans of any HP device we have ever used, but worse yet, the scan quality is so low that they are unusable in a business environment that needs to copy or scan (for email or document storage) VIRTUALLY ANY DOCUMENT.

The specs for this machine say that it does "up to 600x600 DPI".  Some people (including HP tech support) seem to think that the 300x300 DPI scan maximum only applies to documents scanned with the ADF (Auto Doc Feeder) adn that higher resolution scans can be achieved if the ADF is not used.  I'd like to see it!  I can't set the scan resolution to more than 300x300 DPI WITH ANY SOFTWARE (include "HP Scan" bundled, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, etc., etc.) EVEN IF I MANUALLY SCAN 2 A PAGE AT A TIME (i.e. do not use the ADF).  The max resolution in all the dialogue boxes, for all the software I have tried tops out at 300x300 DPI!

Worse yet, the when I set any of our many other scanners to 300x300 DPI and compare the results, the M477 looks more like a 150x150 DPI Scan (the qulaity is pathetically poor)!

For our offices, I bought the FDW (duplexing/2 sided printing with wireless) printers and extra paper trays  for each unit. The total per machine was almost $700!  We have $150  MFP's (even some from HP!!) that do FAR BETTER quality wise than the M477s.

DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE MFP M477 PRINTERS. They are garbage and, despite HP's usually stellar products, these printers are crippled by their poor design/perfomance and  A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!

I don't disagree that it's not the best scanner in the world but I can easily scan 1200dpi from the flatbed... The rest of the printer functions work great for me but I would still like to see 1200dpi with the ADF...
