HP Laser jet 700 color MFP M775 printer

I have a HP Laser jet 700 color MFP M775 printer.  It no longer boots properly.

Initially it was getting stuck at "Checking Hardware 5" and after numerous restarts and an update to the latest firmware, it is now stuck at "Initializing 15".

It appears to reboot by itself after a few seconds and goes back to 1/8 boot.

How can I diagnose this?

Hi I would like to assist to the best of my ability to solve your problem.I hope the information i supply will be of help.Just for information some technical information is protected by HP and is not allowed to be answered. This is unfortunate and you will have to contact a HP repair shop for the help in this case.I think you should do a nvram reset on that machine.Unfortunately i don't have any information on this model to assist.I'm sure that someone will help soon.

Anyone know the password to access service tools? The pin I'm the service manual is incorrect (11077512).
HP Recommended

The PIN in the service manual is correct for accessing Service menu.

Service tools ( that is different from service menu) uses the different PIN and there is nothing in Service tool menu that will help you resolve your problem. Service tools menu is used to reset forgotten or lost Admin password.

In the Preboot menu you have a Diagnostic menu, use it to test HDD and memory and potentially isolate the problem.

Hello, thanks for the information. I was hoping the NVRAM reset would be back there.

All diagnostics pass.

Since you have a service manual I would suggest firmware update in Preboot menu page 473 and 474 in the service manual ( hope we have the same copy of the service manual).

If that doesn't help Partial clean of HDD page 458 and 459.

Hello,

Firmware is updating, running v4.  Also tried reverting to v3, but I'm unable to do that.

I've tried formatting and Partial clean as well.

Also tried a different hard drive.  It will install from the other drive, but won't boot properly either.

Hi encoad,

Have you tried to print an engine test? There is a small hole at the rear of the printer which if you insert a thin object in it and hold for several seconds produces an engine test page.

If the engine test comes out ok (black, cyan, magenta and yellow horizontal lines) then chances are that your formatter board has gone faulty. Try to remove the formatter and clean its contacts to the ICB, then re-install it back in.

I hope this may help,

Cheers!
