Yes, I understand what you mean. 

 

In my humble opinion the printer repair store should charge you only for what is faulty. So, if the HDD is faulty they should charge you for that only. If it is the formatter then they should charge you only for the formatter, and use your good HDD if this is the case. 

 

Is that repair store a HP certified one? I would recommend to take it to a HP certified one, with HP service qualified technicians.
