Hello
I have a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.5 and an HP P1102w that I am trying to print to via USB. I have been printing this way for years. But when I try to print now, from any application, I get an alert that says I need to update my software through the app store. But the app store says there is no update! I have tried deleting my driver and reinstalling it but the same thing happens. I need to print....Please help!

Hi @Garinhorner,
Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that the printer does not work via a USB cable. I will be really glad to assist you here. 🙂
Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 You’ve done commendable troubleshooting which is greatly appreciated.
For me to assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you try to reset the Mac printing system?
For a start please reset the Mac printing system from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/document... and go to the MAC website to update the Mac Operating system.
- After this please add the HP printer by following these steps:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.
- 2.) Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.
- 3.) In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.
- 4.) Click the Add button.
- 5.) Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
- 6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer.
- 7.) Avoid the AirPrint driver. Once the correct HP driver is chosen, select Add to add the printer to the list. 8.) Try to print
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂
. Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Hello David,
I tried everything you mentioned and I still get a message that says, "You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose App Store...from the Apple menu. I fthe sofware for your printer isn't available in App Store..., contact th manufacturer of your printer." The app store doesn't have any kind of update for the software I already have. I reset my printers/scanners have reloaded the HP software 3 times.
I have updated my OS to MacOS 10.12.5.
Any other ideas?
Thank you for trying to figure this out.
Garin
