Hello!

The magenta pigments on my color HP printer stopped printing. I've used it very lightly in the year since I've had it (153 pages according to the Supplies Status), and the toner cartridges are the original ones.

Things I've done so far :

1. Reset the printer to factory settings.

2. Update the firmware.

3.Tried printing from multiple devices (including OSX, but the problem happens even from test pages from the printer itself)

4. Turning the device off and on again.

5. Physically looked at the cartridge to make sure it was properly installed and void of dust or debris, of course without touching the drum.

6. Ran HP Print and Scan Doctor.

7. Printed the Supplies Status test page. C is at 80%, M at 90%, Y at 80% and K at 90%. The color bands that appear for other colors are present, but the magenta line remains white.

None of these steps have solved the problem. Is there anything I'm overlooking?

Thanks!

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting print quality issues on your printer.

Print a cleaning page.

Follow these steps to print a cleaning page:

  1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch Setup ().

  2. Touch Service, and then touch Cleaning Page.

  3. Load plain, white paper when you are prompted.

  4. Touch OK to begin the cleaning process.

  5. Try to print again to see if the issue is resolved,

Check the EconoMode settings

Follow these steps to check the EconoMode settings:

  1. From the software program, select the Print option.

  2. Select the printer, and then click Properties or Preferences.

  3. Click the Paper/Quality tab, and then locate the Print Quality area.

  4. If the entire page is too dark, use these settings:

    • Select the 600 dpi option.

    • Select the EconoMode check box to enable it.

If the entire page is too light, use these settings:

    • Select the FastRes 1200 option.

    • Clear the EconoMode check box to disable it.

  5. Click OK, and then click OK to print the job.

Thank you for the reply. Printing a cleaning page did not fix the issue.

As for the second clue... well, I tried, but it didn't do anything. Since it also happens when printing directly from the printer, I'm not sure how it could've applied. The rest of the colors, by the way, aren't too light, too dark, or streaked, or anything else. The only quality issue I'm seeing is magenta not printing at all.

What would be the next step?
