Must I have a network cable attached to my printer to use it wirelessly?
I am switching from hdmi connected printer to wireless. It seems that I can't get a network connection without the network cable inserted into the back of my HP LaserJet Pro p1606dn / CE749A printer. I want to use this with Eprint, so I must have a netework connection. Does "wireless" only refer to not having a wire between the computer and the printer but still being teathered to the wall location of the Network cable?

No you can't HP LaserJet Pro p1606dn is not a wirelessly printer.
HP LaserJet Pro p1606dn the last two characters mean d-double n-network which means it does'nt have a wirelessly capability. HP P1606 does not have a wireless model if it did it should be named as P1606dnw which the w-wireless.
You can print wirelessly when you plug into the RJ45 cable into your wireless router it's just because of the wireless route not the P1606dn itself.

Hi Bpxtn3,
I think you are a bit confused about your printer. The HP Laserjet Pro P1606dn (CE749A) model does not have wireless capability by default.
Specs here: https://h10057.www1.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/provisioner/99/CE749A.htm
Unless you buy the optional accessory HP Jetdirect ew2500 print server.
I hope this will help,
Cheers!

My laptop is able to print on my printer without a wire between the laptop and my printer as long as I have a network cable from my wall plugged into the back of the printer.
I believe this capability is provided by the reprint software from HP.
So, my question still remains.
