I have the same problem, the printer will not complete the power on initialization sequence.
I've tried multiple power resets, but no joy.
It turns out I am 1 month out of warranty, and HP Support is unable to help me.
Any other way to force a reset?
Thank You,
...Patrick

It appears I owe you an apology....at least your latest instructions are apparently working.
I had not thought the printer would respond over the network if it were still initializing. To me that sounds like it is still booting up, but I guess networking was turned on before it got stuck.
In any case, this afternoon I turned the printer back on, plugged into USB cable to my HP Envy 17t, downloaded the June 2015 firmware update, ran it, it updated the printer firmware, and the printer restarted and got thorugh to the Home screen on display.
I then configured it for my home wifi network and got it attached to my router.
Then I opened the EWS page and set the IPV6 off and changed to static IP.
So far merry good. Now I may try cycling power on the printer a few times and see if it will remain working as planned.
🙂
Power cycle #1: OK
Power cycle #2: OK
Power cycle #3: OK
power cord removed for 15 minutes
Power cycle #4: OK
So now it seems to be working. I can't fathom why the HP Chat person told me to go away, they could not help, would not do anything. Made me give up and replace it with a Brother....which is working really well and looks much sleeker than the M225 even though it has better specs (print speed, duplex scan) and still has all the other features of the M225....and it cost less at $150. Not sure why HP continues to be #1 with Brother beating them at the product and price point, and I must say I am impressed with their email ollow-up and providing support tools and an eagerness to make me happy....so better service than HP as well.
Hmm, I guess I sound pretty negative about HP. Sorry if that colors your enthusiasm for HP.
Thank you for your persistence in getting me fixed up.
Regards,
...Patrick

Hi @Mackinlay,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see that the printer is stuck on the "HP Logo, Initializing". I would like to try and help you. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say thanks for my effort to help, click the " Thumbs Up " to give me a Kudos.
I would try and update the firmware on the printer first, if you haven't already, HP LaserJet Pro Series Firmware Update Utility.
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
I will send you the reset information, in a private message to try.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
Please let me know the results and if there is anything else I can help you with. Thank you.

Hi @Mackinlay,
Thanks for providing that information in the PM.
Access the printer's Embedded Web Server and turn off the IPv6 feature.
Open a new web browser window and type in the printer's IP address.
Click the Network tab, and then click IPv4 Configuration.
Select Manual IP.
Type in the information off the Configuration Page.
Then Apply the settings.
Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. Thank you.

It's not clear to me how instructions to update or upgrade printer firmware, or change printer networking to static IP and/or IPv4 addressing, will fix a printer that won't power on and initialize while standing on a table with nothing but power connected.
- I can't update the fw if it does not turn on.
- I can't change networking if it does not turn on.
- And my laptop OS can't really be important if not connected to the printer.
Ultimately this printer is now a brick, doing nothing but consuming power. HP should be ashamed.
But apparently corporate greed is more important to HP than fixing a problem they created.
That's my $.02.

Hi @Mackinlay,
Since the printer is stuck on the initializing screen, it is actually turned on. Most of the time the firmware update will still recognise the printer and update. The firmware update, has fixed a lot of the printer's that were stuck initializing.
You just go to the website that I provided, select your operating system, then download the firmware update and run it.
If I had been provided the OS, I could have provided you with the direct link.
If you know the printer's IPv4 address, you just type it into the internet browser to bring up the printer's page. Then you can follow the steps in the previous document.
If you aren't able to run the firmware update and access the printer's Embedded Web Server, then the printer will need to be serviced.
I am just trying to help. Thank you.
