My computer recently upgraded to Windows 2010 WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Now my printer will not print. The error message is that it cannot detect the computer. Several people who are waaaay more computer savvy than I am have tried to fix it to no avail.

Hi @Elsiedee,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing from your HP OfficeJet printer after the recent upgrade. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
I would suggest a clean install to try and fix this issue. This can be done easily by following the steps listed below:
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer / PC.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Restart your computer.
Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34830/mp-109384-3/OJ6500_E710n-z_1315-1.exe and install the updated printer software.
Connect the USB cable only while prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Once done, restart the computer and then check if that prints.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to install the printer using Windows In-built drivers to install the printer.
You can connect the printer to the computer using the USB cable. Ideally, the Windows will install the drivers required for the printer automatically in 2-3 minutes and then try to print.
Windows built-in drivers are different to the regular drivers that we were installing and hence I certainly hope that will make a difference.
Go to http://hp.care/2bYE4kP and expand "Step 3" and follow the instructions under "USB connection (Windows 10)". This will help you install the windows printer drivers, Try printing to the newly added printer and check.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.
