My HP Officejet Pr 8600 Plus N911g is making a loud banging noise as the print carriage goes back and forth but prints good. It just started doing this. Is the printer about to quit working ?

It is possible, but I thought that reseating everything might help with that. You may be able to prevent the noise by downloading the latest firmware. If you still get the noise after that, the printer may need to be replaced. You can contact HP Support by clicking on this link and filling out the form at the bottom.
Please let me know your results after doing the above.

Hey @BigT1434,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that your Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer is making loud noises when printing. I can help you with that.
To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done, this document outlines how to remove and reinstall the printhead and cartridges. The document is geared towards a different issue, but the troubleshooting steps are what you are looking for.
Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to prevent the noise, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hello, I removed the printer head and made sure nothing was in the way. I reinstalled the printer head and it still makes that klunk sound as the carrage goes back and forth. It sounds like it is hiting a stop (wall) back and forth. The printer was working fine for two & 1/2 years now and just started doing this. Maybe it is wearing out.
