- New M254 Color Plane Registration is Wrong

I just received a new M254 yesterday. Color graphics seemed blurry. The diagnostic and print quality pages seem to show a problem with color plane registration. The black is definitely higher than the other colors, but I believe there is a slight offset with at least one of the other colors.
Calibration doesn't fix it. I can't find the "restore calibration" selection that the user manual discusses. I tried resetting to factory defaults but that hasn't helped either.
Is this something that could be finessed, or is the printer itself trash and I need to send it back?
Thanks in advance.

Try removing and re-installing the cartridges again and run the calibration at least 4 times (sometimes it takes a few) and check it with a supplies report to check the calibration.
If all the colors are off the same way, then it's likely a defective black cartridge. But, if one color is way off compared to the others, then it's likely that color cartridge is the problem.
Contact HP for warranty support for the cartridges.
