I have a new laptop with Windows 10 linked to an HP laserjet 1200 series printer, connected by usb port. The laptop doesn't recognise the printer when I plug it into the port. I've found and downloaded the correct driver, all my other usb devices work when plugged into the same port and the printer works when plugged into other computers. When I plug the printer into the laptop there is no reaction at all and when I go to devices to "Add Printer" the printer isn't listed. I would be grateful of any suggestions as to what the problem might be. Thanks and regards, Kevin

Hey there! @LlainGam, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand your laptop does not recognize the printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Have you tried checking with a different USB cable?
Uninstall the printer drivers from root level on your PC and install the universal print drivers and check if it helps.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Please find the link to install universal print drivers.
Also, update the USB communication driver using this link.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
