LaserJet Enterprise M506
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a HP Laserjet Enterprise M506. I already configure it on the network. When I send a "print test page" I only hear a click on the printer. The printer wakes up, but does not print.  If I ping the printer ip I have completely success.  I, also,  can login to the printer via the web browser using the ip/hp/webservice and I can print reports (like logs). Still, I can't print anything form any workstation neither form the main server.  Need help !!!! Thanks!!

The first thing you need to do is isolate what is causing the issue. To do this go to any computer and load the printer using the add printer and adding as a local tcp/ip printer and not as a network printer. Once you have loaded the printer see if you can print to it. In fact with most operating system you can print a test page before you finish the installation. If it works that will tell us the issue is the server and somehow when the print job gets to the server it is not being fed correctly to the printer either because of port or driver issues.

I have the same problem. Installed this printer on the network for a bunch of W7-32 and w7-64 clients. One W7-32 client can't print. I tried installing it though the CD-ROM, software download from HP, Add-a-printer using  have disk and downloaded drivers, installed using Universal Driver with M506 printer selected, and even tried printing through a share on another W7-32 machine. Each print attempt causes the printer to "click" and then nothing. Machine has been rebooted many times. Everything has been tried twice already.

I've installed it on other machines using the Add-a-printer and IP address, also Add-a-printer using host name. I can get into the web-page of the printer fine.

What is the next step?

Followed instructions elsewhere on this forum to unistall and unregister printers, devices, drivers,  delete temp folder and clean up disk. Then ran HP Assistant to find and install printer followed by and HP Printer Dr. software to reset the port. Nothing works. Machine will "spin up" when print job sent but then stop after a second.

Checked the log for the machine and found this event for PrintService with this error:

Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

I checked the user's group settings for the network and they appear fine. In fact they can print to other printers on the network no problem. So why is this new printer different?

Searched Internet for PrintService error in client computer admin log:

Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

Advice on the web suggested loosening permissions on the C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder to get access to it. I did so and the machine can print now!  But I don't want to keep the permissions loose like that. Especially because that client machine was printing to other printers just fine with the old permissions.  Any ideas?
