All the test/quality pages are fine but when I attempt to print several pages the text is not straight and the LH margin tapers progressively down the page. The printer has never had problems before and the paper is not really any different now to previous and the cartridges are hp.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
I understand that you are facing a print quality issue.
Are you facing this issue after an update?
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Then, use an automated tool to clean the printhead
NOTE:
This process uses ink to try to unclog and clean the nozzles in the printhead. This process might take a few minutes and uses one or more sheets of paper.
You should only clean the printhead if the alignment page is streaked, faded, or missing colors.
Step one: Use an automated tool to clean the printhead
-
Load plain white paper into the tray, if there is not already paper in it.
-
On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow (
) to display more options.
-
Touch Setup (
), and then touch Tools. The Tools Menu displays.
-
Touch Clean Printhead.
-
Wait while the printer completes the printhead cleaning process, and then touch OK.
NOTE:
If the printhead is badly clogged, you might need to clean the printhead several times to restore normal print quality.
Step two: Align the printer
Once the printer finishes cleaning the printhead, align the printer.
-
Load plain white paper into the tray, if there is not already paper in it.
-
Touch the Right Arrow (
) to display the second navigation screen.
-
Touch Setup (
), and then touch Align Printer.
-
Wait while the printer aligns the printhead and then prints an alignment page.
-
If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
-
If the issue persists
If the issue persists, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
