I just bought the 6500 Wireless as well.  Printing works great.  Haven't tried fax.  And scanning absolutely does not work.  I thought my problem was unique, but after finding this forum, I've realized that it is a quite pervasive issue.  I don't understand why HP would sell a product with an integral function that so frequently needs to be troubleshooted.

This isn't the half of my frustration with HP, though.  My real anger has been aroused by the past hour that I just spent on "Tech Support" with HP...with nothing to show.  I made 4 separate calls in that nightmarish hour.  The first two were with automated response paths to nowhere.  I would literally end up getting hung up on by the computer.

The third was with Brad (an actual human...it was truly God's intervention) and he didn't know what to do so he said he would transfer me to the Mac specialist.  I told him that I had already been hung up on 2 times by HP and I didn't want to get hung up on again.  He promises to me that it won't happen, and he even takes my phone number because he plans to check up on me later to make sure that I got help.  Riiiiight.  So he transfers me to the Mac specialist.  I wait for 5 minutes like a schmuck.  Then, I get the dreaded automated message saying a support rep is unavailable.  And then, HP hangs up on me.  AGAIN.

So I call a FOURTH TIME and get a female support rep.  I describe my problem and she tells me that the Mac support rep is not on shift on Sundays.  I say fine, but why did "Brad" tell me that he was on shift?  And why did "Brad" transfer me to him when he wasn't there to begin with?  It was truly maddening.

In the end, I spent an hour on the phone, and still have a scanner that doesn't work.  I have to call back tomorrow in hopes of speaking with the elusive Mac Support Rep.

From what I have experienced first hand and read on this forum, the scanning function on the 6500 seems to be defective.

But, I'm still holding out hope that "Brad" will call me back to check in...

Fat Chance.

I too have exactly the same problem.   I just bought a new Officejet 6500 (not wireless), and scanning a picture gets stuck (scanning a document works OK),  I'm on Win XP SP2.

I talked for two hours with HP helpdesk, they asked me to uninstall the printer, then re-install it, then we installed Solution Center 13, but nothing worked, the problem is still there.

Does anyone have a solution???

I have been having the same problem.  Scanner error messages.  I have windows 7 and using the wireless 6500 on my laptop.  I gave up on this issue a couple of months ago but really needed to scan today so spent the last 4 hours reading and trying everything humanly possible to fix this scanning problem.

I found this to be a problem in other hp printers and found one post that allowed me to scan FINALLY!!!  As a matter of fact there is a post here about how hp put an icon on a desktop and got it to work.  But what's the icon??

Search for hpiscnapp.  That is the shortcut you want to put on your desktop.  Works like a frickin charm!!!  Buda Bing Buda Boom... scanned 9 pages and converted to pdf with no errors.!!!!!!!

Stop driving yourself crazy and wait for hp to bring out a fix this is the only thing that works!!

I believe your screen DPI is not set to the default value of 96 dpi. I believe that's what's causing the problem. Take a look at the link below to change the DPI to 96. Then restart the PC and retry scanning.

KK HERES THE REAL DEAL..

1. Open up the Solution Center

2. Put the document you wanna scan in the feeder.(there will be a message on your printer and Lo!! on your solution center too!!)

3.  On the solution center click on scan document woo hoo your almost there

4. Then it'll ask for settings and what not.   After clicking through all dat.... then the most beautiful option will come up that says "Scan Document"

5.  Click it

6.  Eat a bowl of lucky charms and remark to yourself how magically delicious

THE END

ps the key is to have the documents in the scanner feeder at the same time the Solution Center is open.  Vwalla!!

i too am having NO luck scanning.  BUT i am not even getting as close as you all are.  when i click the scan button on my printer, it tells me there are no scan options. ????  so then i try to open the solution center and it won't open because it says my installation is incomplete.  my intention is to also run it on a wireless network.  i have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times today i have lost count, all of which gave me the successful installation prompt.  i have also tried a hard USB connection and wirless and i still get the same error message on the printer faceplate when i try to scan.

i have gotten the success messages that installation is complete and even got verification that my network is properly connected.  i even got the prompt screen to register, which i already did too.  i have even tried the recommended drivers and patches from hp.  again, STILL same no scan options message.

soooo....what next???  i also DO NOT want to call HP support for fear of losing half of my day!  the only way i can scan is by using the webscan, but that is just stupid and completely defeats the purpose of a scanner!  UGH!

any suggestions greatfully welcome!

thanks in advance,

rebecca

What operating system?  There was a new driver posted just two weeks ago for Vista and Windows 7.

I don't know you, but I truly love you.  Sorry to say this, but when my scanner didn't work, I went to this forum.  I find that help is easier to find in these, than trying to call tech support.  Your information saved me so much time!  I truly thank you for you posting this here.

sorry to say that EVERY fix i tried didn't work for me.  my computer is only a few weeks old, so i honestly don't know what the problem is.

i don't have the time to continue screwing with it!  i went up to staples an hour ago and got a canon!  easy install and everything works as it should!  sorry hp:(  will be returning my 6500 this afternoon:(  not happy
