I had similar issues with a non-wireless model. I called HP and their solution was to not plug the printer into a surge suppressing power strip, but to plug directly into the wall. The fixed the problem.

Hi, I'm a retired Systems Engineer too and had the same problem!  How I fixed it was really simple....Just connected direct to the printer via USB cable and controlled it from my Laptop OS!  Right click on printer icon and click scan!  It would NOT work any other way for me.  Very recent laptop n latest OS from MS....... Total time abt 15 min!  Good luck to those yet to discover this thread!

OMG, I also had the same scanning problems, but your suggestion to access the printer from System Preferences (I have a Mac) and choosing scanning worked.  Thanks.!

Thank you for the solution posted. I'm not a Techy person, but I am trying everything to make this scanner problem work. I need it for my job?
If anyone has further solutions to this software problem, please, please help me. email {Personal Information Removed}.....Sheila Smith

I had the same problem.  After weeks of trouble shooting.  I uninstalled driver and software version 14 and reinstalled my original CD version 12, and everything is working again.  Obviously the version 14 update corrupts the wireless ethernet portion of the application.  Good luck.

Open up HP Solution Center and under setting tab open scan settings

then scan to scan option, set options on what format you want to scan. Click update device. hat should correct your problem

You have yet to address my problem. When trying to scan, hitting the scan button on the machine I get No Scan Option. I had the option when I bought the unit now it is missing?

So what fix worked?
