I have a new color laser printer, but many of the images containing photos come out darker than I like, but I cannot find any adjustments in the printer software to control this. Can you help?

Settings are mostly controlled by driver and by application. Some photo programs print darker than others.

It was interesting to read your comment that different applications can print darker or differently than others. If you have any simple steps that can be useful in correcting or compensating for brightness levels, I'd be very interested to read them. Generally I do know how to adjust images in Photoshop or other Adobe applications so that they can print properly, but it seems that in many other places, such as printing a page from an email or on a website etc. the images are a bit darker than I'd like.
I have experiemented with various settings for paper weight and other things that appear in the print menu, but they really don't make much difference. Thanks for your help and insight.

Available options my vary depending on the drivers that you are using. This is the Universal Print Driver PCL6. This gives you the option to have color management by either host system or printer. (ICM) I have found that paper types have less of an effect on output than they do with inkjet printers where the amount of ink can dramatically affect saturation levels.
