HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn wireless printer. It works flawlessly with my home desktop running Windows 10.

I have a work laptop which until recently was running Windows 7. On Windows 7, there was no problem printing to this printer. Two weeks ago my office converted to Windows 10. Since then when I print to the M127fn, all it does is spit out one blank page.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Windows 10 (64-bit) driver several times (rebooting after each uninstall). I have made sure I am running the install as an administrator. I have made sure to unsync my computer from One Drive to ensure the driver isn't being moved to the cloud. Nothing seems to help.

When I open the HP Device Toolbox, I am able to succesfully print a Demo Page. However, printing from any other program (Outlook, Word, etc.) results in nothing but one blank page spitting out of the printer.

I when running the driver install, I do get the following error message: "An error occurred communicating with the printer." However, as I said, it sends the demo page just fine. Scanning also works fine. It just won't print.

When I run HP's Printer Diagnostic tool, everything comes back fine (all green checks). Yet nothing prints.

I am beyond frustrated and have spent 8+ hours attempting to troubleshoot this problem. Any suggestions are welcome.

@Lynnie42,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand you are having issues while printing blank pages from your HP LaserJet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges or refilled cartridges?

Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

If the copy comes out bad, then I would suggest here is to follow all the steps suggested in the support document for -  HP LaserJet Pro Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality (This document includes the steps which are suggested for color or black not printing).

If the copy comes out fine, then it looks like an issue with the print drivers. If you're running Windows, I would suggest here is to uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall the printer by following the steps below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the printer full feature software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I followed all of the instructions you listed. The printer copies fine. The printer prints from my other Windows 10 computer fine.

Following your instructions, I completely uninstalled all drivers and associated files for this printer, restarted the computer, and downloaded and installed the drivers again.

The installer was able to find the printer on the network. It printed a test page. I got a green checkmark stating that everything installed successfully. However, while still in the installer, I get an error message saying that the computer is having difficulty connecting to the printer. I've clicked "Retry" several times with no success.

Installed scanner software/drivers work correctly and the laptop will communicate with the printer for scanning. However, any print job still only spits out a single blank page.

Any other suggestions?

@Lynnie42,

Thanks for the update,

As I understand you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue. In this scenario, I would suggest this could be an issue with the Operating system.

Let's try to uninstall the printer driver and then create a new user account.

Once you have created a new account, restart the computer and then try to login to the new account which you have created.

Now go ahead and reinstall the printer software.

Try to create a new local user and then try to install the printer. Follow the steps here to create a local account on your PC: Click here

Now, login to the new account and then try to install the printer and check.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

I'm sorry. This is a laptop owned by my employer. Although I have Administrator privilages on my machine, I don't think my orginization would approve or allow me to create a new user account on the machine.

Unfortunately, my employer's IT department won't assist in connecting their devices to personal hardware, and it appears you are unable to help me connect your device to my employer-owned hardware. So I guess I'm stuck. 😞
