My new laptop (Lenovo ideapad) won't print to my printer using single cartridge mode. I can print on my desktop, which also runs Win 10. My black ink port isn' toworking. I trouble shot through the HP support area, only to reduce my usage to single cartridge mode.
I can't find ANYWHERE on this machine to adjust the color to single mode. When I add a black, I get an error message (don't recall) and then it won't print at all. AT the time we didn't want to pay to get the machine fixed.
What does one do in this situation? Thanks!

Hi @PaperMichelle ,
Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
The Barachiel is at your service.
I understand you are in need of support,
I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:
Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
When was the last time it worked without these issues?
In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:
To print in single-cartridge mode, remove one of the ink cartridges, and then continue to print as usual.
The printer control panel or computer screen might display a message to install the missing cartridge. To clear the message and continue with the print job, click or press OK.
Follow this link for reference.
Let me know how that pans out. 🙂
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask any other queries as well,
Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help. 😉

Barachiel, thank you for contacting me regarding this issue I'm having.
I have tried several things, before contacting the HP Forum. This is my 1st attempt in the Forum.
The items I've tried are cleaning the print heads - no luck. The black print head is the only issue. My desktop PC (running win 10) will print, but my new laptop won't. I set the printer itself up for single cartridge printing, but when I got to print fom this new laptop, it says I'm out of ink/toner and does NOT give a single cartridge option - only to replace the ink. Well, I can't do that with black successfully, color yes.
I have been trying since last week. I got this laptop for Christmas 2017 & am just now wanting to print.
That link didn't provide a solution. I can click OK, but it still won't print. It goes to the que & there it stays. Unless I cancel the job.
Is it a Win 10 issue, A laptop issue or a printer issue? I'm not sure what drivers are on this machine - if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
Michelle

Hi @PaperMichelle ,
Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
If it print's fine with the desktop, then I believe it is not an issue with the printer.
I would request you to perform the steps given below in the laptop.
Root Level – printer driver re-installation:
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers

I would request you to perform the steps given below in the laptop. I UNINSTALLED THE HP PRINTER, BU THERE ARE STILL ALL THE SOFTWARE ATTACHMENTS THAT COME WITH IT. NAMELY THE HP ENVY 4500 SERIES BASIC DEVICE SOFTWARE. DO I NEED TO UNINSTALL THAT TOO?
Root Level – printer driver re-installation:
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab I HAD TWO DRIVERS LISTED AND TOOK THEM BOTH OFF.
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

Hi @PaperMichelle ,
Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
Yes, You'll have to un-install everything related to the printer and re-install them again. 🙂
Follow the same instructions given earlier.

I'm only getting instructions to delete/uninstall everything. Do I try to install it all over again when I'm done with that? That would make sense to me, but I wasn't sure if there was going to be assistance with that, to make sure I don't run into the same problem.
Let me know! Thanks for all you've done so far!

Hi @PaperMichelle ,
Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts.
If it's working fine, then you need not do it, but if in case you are facing the issue, Please try to perform a complete root level re-installation which would get it fixed. 🙂
