When printing from the main paper tray the first page stops when the page is halfway out and the next page is short of the fuser unit. However when I print from the manual feed tray there is no problem. Could something have broken in the main tray or is it a sensor? Thanks if you can help

What does the printer say when it stops printing?

I'd guess that the printer thinks there is a jam somewhere in that area.  Jams occur when the paper sensors do not detect the paper passing through at the expected time.  The paper is making it through the sensors in teh tray otherwise it would have stopped earlier.  There might be something blocking the paper sensors after the cartridges though since you mentioned the paper stops before the fuser.  I would open up and clean out that area first.

Only one page put in the tray & print if it is printing without jam error that means separation pad is faulty & if there is still jam then snsor problem

Thanks for the help. Bizarrely  after printing one page from the main tray, which I could always do - just not multiple pages - the printer failed to respond so I removed it but when I restarted the PC and it re-appeared I could not set it as default printer. When I rebooted again it disappeared from the list of printers completely. I went to add a printer but it was not found so I did it manually and hey presto i could then print multiple pages from the tray. Who knows, maybe the sensor cleaned itself!
