hp photosmart 7520e, missing setup cartridges error after installing xl564, would not continue installation.

the cartridges were pulled from my hp photosmart estn 510 series printer and were working fine in that unit.

i have spare cartridges, but decided not to open them without the printer working with the old cartridges.

the 7520e was new in the box and has not been registered with hp, serial number is [edit]

i would like to thank, , for his help in solving my problem.

Although, i had already accessed the reset menu, and tried the 3 resets that were available,

none of them resolved the problem.

Solution:  once into the service menu, scroll down to configuration menu, and select "trade at 00BE".

Then select disable which allows you to use non oem cartridges, even though i was using oem cartridges.

Next i restarted the photosmart 7520 and the cartridges were recognized and i was able to print.

thank again for your assistance.

@bwireman,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues with setup cartridge errors. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try any troubleshooting like cleaning the ink cartridges and reinstalling them?

For now, try these steps:

If the issue continues, then contact HP phone support to order setup cartridges for your printer by following these steps:

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

  1. Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
  2. 2) Click on “Continue as guest”.
  3. 3) Enter the serial of your device.
  4. 4) Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. 5) Click on “Show Options”.

Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

This should do the trick for you as long as the printer’s hardware is not faulty. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.  Please note that I am not overloading you with steps but instead, giving you more information to work with.

We are as eager as you are to get the issue fixed. I request you to perform all these steps till the issue is fixed.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

the cartridges are working fine in the other printer, to keep things simple, i removed the other working printhead and installed it in this printer.

Next, i returned the printhead and cartridges to the other printer where no issues were detected, prints fine.

Note, the printer was sold as is, without the setup cartridges, which i did not realize were a necessity in the setup.

Since the printer i have used the same printhead and cartridges, who would have known that they were not compatible.

As i stated the printer setup fails with the setup cartridges not being installed.

I went to product support to try and get some help with the problem, but when i enter the serial number it is not recognized by your computer.

also, i tried to register the printer and had the same failure to recognize the printer.

My reason for coming to this site was that your support site blocks me from asking questions, printer not recognized.

As a last resort, i tried to enter the service menu, using the top 2 buttons on the left of the control panel.

There were no options available that allowed me to work around the setup cartridge problem.

My question is if the printer is not recognized by you computer support system, then what resources do i have available

to work around the problem.

And, as i stated i have new hp 564xl cartridges that will not be recognized by the printer, which i will not open and allow to dry out.

@bwireman,

reviewed the post. Thanks for the update. It is wonderful to hear from you. Your time and patience are greatly appreciated and your commitment to resolving this is laudable. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

I will send you a private message to perform a semi-full reset on the printer to factory settings as the option to bypass the setup cartridges for this printer is not there. Please check your forum private message box for instructions on how to perform a semi full reset on the printer. Please check the message box next to the bell icon on the upper right corner of the page.

This should fix the issue. if the issue continues, then contact HP phone support to order setup cartridges.

Please refer to the user guide of the printer http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03456524 for the control panel features and controls that is required for the semi full reset.. Refer to page 7 of the user guide.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed year ahead. Stay healthy and smile big, 🙂

 Cheers!
