Well this is certainly interesting. When I print the process colours the black and yellow squares are faded.

I think this narrows things down to the toner cartridges.

Thanks  for the idea, Jim.

Took both cartridges out and gave a good shake.

Yellow is fine.

Black still faded.

When I first looked at your photos, my immediate reaction was that there was a yellow problem at minimum. The reason was that the "fade" showed up on the green panel at the top where the bad part was cyan, indicating that the yellow component of the green was missing. So give the black another shake and see where it leads.

Have shaken black  cartridge vigorously, but output remains  significantly faded.

Yellow is better but  defintely not as solid as Magenta and Cyan.

If it is still under warranty, I would try to get them replaced under warranty. I don't know how you go about that, but hopefully someone will come on and outline the proceedure.

BTW, I was impressed the you knew what Process Colours were. Are yyou in the UK or Canada?

UK.

I'm in the design industry (architectural) so have an idea of my CMYK from my RGBs!

Really appreciate your help on this. Often it's good to just work through a problem with someone.

Will hopefully reach a solution with HP but I may well be out of the 1 year warranty period.

I will try and give some feedback. You did a great job in fault finding. In the pictures you have send the spongy roller with the yellow colour is the image transfer roller. The spring on that sidemight be missing and not pushing the roller against the image transfer belt.If machine is still under warranty do take it to Hp and they will rectify the problem.

Hope this helped.
