J5780
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

The HP cartridges are new and full.

The scanner works fine.

When I copy a page using the feeder or placing it on the glass, the paper goes throught the printer but nothing is copied.

When I print, the paper goes throught the printer but nothing is printed.

The printer has always worked properly.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you are unable to Copy and Print from your HP Officejet J5780.

I could help.

Let's start with a Printer Reset.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on

.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Next, remove the Cartridges, clean the electrical contacts with a Lint-Free cloth and reinstall them firmly.

Please print a Diagnostic Page and let me know if that prints.

Steps:

  1. Press and hold the asterisk (*) and pound (#) buttons on the product control panel.

  2. When the control panel reads *******#######, release the asterisk (*) and pound (#) buttons.

  3. Press the 3, 2, and 9 buttons, in that order.

  4. Press the right arrow button () to select Special Reports, and then press OK.

  5. Press the right arrow button () to select Print Cartridges, and then press OK.

Let me know if the Diagnostic page prints.

Thank you. 🙂

Thank you very much. Your instructions worked very well. The printer is back to printing but my J5780 still won't copy.

I used the document feeder and the glass. The copier goes through the motions but only a blank page comes out of the machine. Any suggestion on how to fix the copier feature?

(The scanner is still working fine.)

Sincerely,

Tom T.

I tried unplugging and cleaning contacts, but HP Officjet 4500 printer will only go through the motions of printing but doesn't actually print anything. Any ideas?
