Hi @Owtlaw

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how frustrating it feels when the printer just sits at “Initializing” after a firmware update, especially since you’ve already tried the troubleshooters without success.

Thank you for the effort you’ve put in so far—let’s go step by step to bring the printer back to normal operation.

Steps to Resolve “Initializing” Stuck Issue

Power Reset

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the rear.
  • Disconnect it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if initialization completes.

Disconnect Network Temporarily

  • Turn off your Wi-Fi router or disconnect the printer from the network.
  • Restart the printer while it is offline.
  • If it completes initialization, reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward through the control panel.

Remove Cartridges and Restart

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  • Power cycle the printer without cartridges installed.
  • Once it reaches the home screen, reinsert the cartridges one by one.

Update Firmware via HP App (Windows 11)

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer.
  • Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Install any available updates. A refresh can clear incomplete initialization loops.

Perform Reset from Control Panel

  • On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • The printer should restart and attempt to reinitialize.
  • This clears temporary memory without affecting saved preferences.

Initialization loops often clear after a full power reset, disconnecting from the network, or reseating cartridges. Once the printer reaches the home screen, you can reconnect and resume printing.

Would you like me to also share how to run a network reset from the control panel? It can help if the initialization is tied to saved Wi-Fi settings.
