I've had my printer a while now and mostly use it for home business purposes. Lately my printer has been giving the message "attention required." I will run the troubleshooter from the settings screen and it finds no errors. After that process the printer works again for a few minutes to an hour before I have to run the troubleshooter again to clear whatever the problem is.
My printer is connected wirelessly to my home network. Any suggestions are appreciated, as this takes a lot of time away from work and this is a temporary solution.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Forums.
I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer and it displays an "attention required" error message. Fabulous diagnostics, spectacular analysis of the issue by you. Kudos to you for that. You have done a remarkable job in troubleshooting this issue.
I would like to know the following information to assist you better:
- Did any hardware changes take place on the printer before this issue started (paper jam, ink cartridge replacement, etc.)?
- Are you using original HP ink cartridges or refilled ink?
While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
If the error continues to appear then remove the ink cartridges out and check if the printer displays a "missing cartridge error". If yes, then insert once ink cartridge at a time and check if the error appears. This will tell us if the issue with the ink cartridges or the printer itself.
You may download and install the firmware update for the printer via this link.
Hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to assist you.
Cheers! 🙂

Hope this works for you because it worked several times in our household for all computers. Incidentally, we never had any problem printing from the app on our phones, just the laptops. It was probably an update that was made in Windows 10 that HP did not keep up with. Our printer was working for years without any major issues until this happened.
I think this solution works for other HP printers with this error message because I found this in a forum for a completely different kind of HP printer.
Do the following:
1. From the Windows setting go into the Devices
2. Select Printers & Scanners
3. Click on your printer with the left mouse and click on the Manage button when it comes up as an option
4. Select the Printer Properties option
5. Click on the Ports tab
6. Click on Add Port
7. Select Standard TCP/IP Port
8. Click New Port, then follow the Next prompt
9. Get the IP address from your printer and enter it into the prompt, then the Port Name will fill in automatically also (the IP address is quite often 192.168.X.X, where you need to fill in the X with the number it provides you on the printer)
10. Printer should be working properly now.
