I have been printing pdf files that are scans of posters. The printer proxy screen would hang up and say "unable to connect to printer". Next, the printer screen would say "insufficient memory". I have tried the solutions suggested by the virtual assistant.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

Please ensure your Mac has all the latest updates

Let's reset the printer back to Factory Settings and also update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m280-m281-multifunction-print...

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Scroll to and select the Service menu.

3. Scroll to and select Restore Defaults, and then touch OK. The printer automatically restarts.

Setup the printer once again to your Network and Add it to the Mac printing queue using Airprint

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Let me know how it goes

Thank you and have a good day 😊
