HP OfficeJet J6450
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have read every string I could find dealing with the issue of the printer rejecting the WPA2 passphrase that works for every other device connected to the network. The only thing that has changed since the last time I successfully sent documents to the printer wirelessly is that I upgraded to the Mac Mojave operating system.

I've tried removing the space before the passphrase (does not occur on my printer), resetting the printer defaults, rebooting the printer, rebooting the router, adding the WPA2 passphrase to the network settings in the keychain on my Mac. None worked.

One of the suggestions I read was to remove the security on the router and attempt to connect to the printer that way, then reset the defaults, add back the security and try reconnecting. The problem with that solution is that the Verizon FIOS router does not allow you to remove security altogether. Either WEP or WPA, but not nothing. So this solution is a non-starter.

Another suggestion was to upgrade the printer's firmware. There is no update listed for the Mojave OS (Version 10.14.1) only the previous version High Sierra (10.13.1).  Perhaps that's the problem?

I have noticed that the printer asks for a WPA passphrase and I seem to recall it used to ask for a WPA2 passphrase which might explain why changing the router security to WPA works for some people.  I haven't tried it and will not downgrade to WPA security just to get my printer to work and shouldn't have to compromise the security of my system just to print. It does seem to suggest that the printer needs to be told to look for a WPA2 passphrase.

This is a problem with numerous HP printers as evidenced by the numerous questions and comments on this topic throughout this forum. Different solutions appear to work for different printers.  There is no one solution that works for everyone and, so far, none that works for me.

Please help. My livlihood depends on my ability to print.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand you are not able to connect the printer to your home WiFi and I'll be glad to help you out. However, for an accurate solution, I would need more details:

The Verizon FIOS router is it a dual band router? If so, do you have 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network enabled on the router?

Any error when you enter the WPA2 passphrase on the printer?

What's the model number of your Verizon FIOS router?

Let me know!
