Hello,
- while the printer is ON, unplug the power cable from the printer.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then
- Plug in the power cord .
- Wait untill printer is ready then try printing.

OK, thanks--just tried that.
After plugging the printer back in, it will still spool but not print.
Printer shows as ready under "Devices and Printers"
Under "See what's printing", it shows "spooling" then "printing." But the ready light on the printer does not indicate it is receiving anything. This printer works fine from another laptop.
It's as if the command is going off into the ether instead of to the printer, and doesn't realize it, so there is no error message.

Hello,
Please try the below steps ...
Click START > Device and Printer > Add a Printer > Add a local printer > Select "Use Existing Port " then Virtual USB from drop down , Click NEXT, in the Manufacturing list , select HP / Hewlett packard, and from the right pane , select Deskjet 6980 and complete the wizard
Now try printing .

OK, didn't help.
But that step added a port that I cannot delete. I now have a printer port listed as "USB006 LocalPort" that I cannot delete. How do I delete it? I unplugged the printer, tried to delete the port, but it is still listed as "USB006 LocalPort". The error message when I try to delete it is "The requested resource is in use."
The other ports are listed as "Virtual Printer Ports," and link to printers that are printing.
Thanks.

OK, got it deleted with some internet searching:
- Check the properties for all printers. Change any that are connected to the port to be deleted.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Control Panel.
- Double-click Services.
- Click the Spooler service, and then click Stop.
- After the Spooler service stops, click Start.
- After the Spooler service starts, click Close.
- Attempt to delete the port again by using the steps above.
In short, stop then start the print spooler, then the port will delete.
But...still have the problem that the printer spools, but won't print.

Hello,
goto services ....
- click START > in search box type in services.msc and hit Enter key. A Services window would open.
- locate for HP Laserjet service . Check if it is started , if not click on Start to start it.
Now try printing. Hopefully it should work.
