I have a new LaserJet Pro M402n connected to an Airport Express and my wireless network. I works fine on family member's accounts and AirPrint works great.

However, when I try to print from my account, the printer only prints two pages - one page with @PJL SET COPIES = 1, @PJL SET JOBID = 23 and a second page with the document name, @PJL SET USERNAME = "<my user name>", @PJL SET RESOLUTION=600, @PJL SET BITSPERPIXEL = 1.

I've tried removing the printer from Preferences and re-installing it, but no help.

I'm able to access the Configuration Report and other screens from the IP address in my browser.

It seems to be well connected, but doesn't like my user profile.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Dvortex. Sorry I'm slow responding.

I followed your list of steps but it did not solve my problem - not able to print from my log-in on my Mac.

I am able to print fine from my wife's log-in, and also from a networked MacBook Pro in another room of my home. But I can't print from the Mac Mini that is on the same desk as my M402n printer. When I try, I get pages of garbage.

I did a chat with an off-shore tech and he remoted in to my desktop, but was unable to solve the problem.

I've deleted the printer multiple times and tried other connection methods (secure airprint, airprint, generic postscript, etc) but no joy.

Sometimes it goes on a printing rampage and prints many pages of garbage and I have to turn off the printer to get it to stop.

Any other suggestions?

Hello, @dsimcox – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! I will do my best to assist your printer issue.

I understand you are facing issues while printing from one of the user accounts. Let’s try the following steps to fix the issue:

  • Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  • Restart your computer and printer.
  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer driver.
  • In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  1. Click the “Add button” (+).
  2. Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  3. Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

I never succeeded in solving this problem on my old user profile. However I did resolve it by duplicating my user profile and reinstalling the printer. Then I deleted my old user profile and now it is working fine.
