Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!  I just bought the LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw - M429 and for the life of me couldn't get the scanner to connect to my laptop to scan my docs. This item was refurbished but I needed it for work to match the existing one me and my coworker share. I figure if I got the same machine, the company could pay for the ink. LOL

Thanks to you and this post I just magically stumbled upon, I did in fact, NOT  buy a lemon!

Thanks again!

Hello,

You did not mention how it was connected.  This "sounds" like a USB connected machine as this is a common problem.  First, make sure you have the latest firmware release installed on the unit.  When Microsoft releases updates for the OS, sometimes the security is also beefed up and can cause problems.  Especially for USB connected devices, but it can also block incoming signals (aka the scan) on network devices.

So... Steps:

Firmware

Drivers, uninstall/reinstall.  Use the full package of drivers to get the best scanning software.

In your printers and devices on the PC's control panel, uncheck the box that says, "Let Windows control my printers".

If USB, go into "system" on your computer, uninstall the USB Root Hub.  Then tell your system to look for "new devices".  It will see the root hub and reinstall it.

If all this fails, then maybe you do have a messed up unit.  Hope this helps... G
