LaserJet 1020
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The paper was not feeding on my LaserHet 1020.   I used the instructions in this video  - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvPZySVX8Zc - to remove and clean the pickup roller.

I removed the roller and cleaned it.  I am having trouble re-installing the pickup roller.  I made an attempt to re-install the roller, put the ink cartridge back, and printed a sample page.  The printer made a harsh mechanical noise, so I stoppped the printing.

I am trying to pinpoint the problem.  I noticed that before I removed the roller, the small white tabs on either side of the roller were located above the rotating metal bar that holds the roller.

Now, the tabs are lower down.

I can't position the circular and rectangular holes on the roller in place in order to install correctly.  (I suppose that I didn't allign them correctly when I first attempted the re-install.)

Any ideas about what I can do to correct this and re-isntall the roller?

Thanks,

Barbara

cycle power on the printer one time and hopefully the pick up assembly will rotate the roller to the right position.

TO replace turn off the printer and unplug it, then remove the toner cartridge, you may be able to manually rotate the roller holder around to the proper position.

try turning the printer off an on a few times first, this should get everything back in the right position

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but It took me a while to get things right.

I followed your instructions.  Turning the power off, then on, repositioned the roller.  I then re-installed the roller, replaced the cartridge and restarted the printer.  Ouch!  Evidently, I re-installed the roller incorrectly.  The mechanism made loud, grinding noises.    So, I unplugged the printer and  removed the cartridge    Ouch!  Ouch!   It looks as if the left hand white plastic hook on the side of the roller holder broke off.

I tried a few more times to re-install the roller, but couldn't seem to get it to snap into place.  I put the project on hold until today when I had time to try again, this time more carefully.

Today, after several more attempts at re-installing the roller, I took a good close look at the HP video.  I realized that I was not aligning the square and round protuberances on the roller properly with the roller holder.  Once I got that right, the roller snapped into place (despite the little piece that broke off.)

And, now, after replacing the cartridge and restarting the printer ... the roller is picking up the paper!

Thank you so much!

Barbara
