Thanks but this fix did not work. I got as far as printing the Configuration Page but there was no IPV4 address (just 0.0.0.0) and I see nothing about Wireless Direct. In fact, I've never (successfully) used this printer wirelessly. Also, I have no Windows machine available. How can I reach that Embedded Web Server?
Thanks for additional information, instructions. (In case the info got lost, I'm on a MacBook Air, OS Mojave.)

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support community!
You can access the EWS page of the printer if it is connected on a network.
- Once the printer is on the network, print the network configuration page. It would have the IP address of the printer.
- Type the IP address into the Internet browser address line, and then press Enter to open the printer EWS.
Check for the Wireless Light status
- If the light is steady, it means the printer is connected to the network
- If the light is blinking, it means the printer is still searching for the network and it is not connected to the network.
1. Wireless Light
What is the wireless Light Status on your printer? Is it blinking or steady?
Please provide me the above information to assist you with an accurate solution for your issue.
Cheers!

Hi and thanks for your note. The wireless light on my printer never stays steady; it always blinks. Thus, I've never been able to use the printer wirelessly. It's always worked fine by USB until recently when I started getting the "can't read this disk" message. I would certainly appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

The Mac is recognizing the printer as a disk drive. Since the printer has a feature called Smart Install, which only installs the printer software automatically on Windows.
We need to disable the Smart Install by connecting the printer to a Windows PC.
- The utility is stored on the software CD, in the UTIL folder.
- When you install the software CD go to "My Computer" right click on the HP Software CD and click "OPEN" and select the UTIL folder.
- In the UTIL folder, you can select SIUtility64.exe.
- Open the Utility, click that you want to disable Smart Install on the Printer (not PC). Once the Smart install has been disabled, you can install the printer on the other computer.
Let me know if this helps.
Cheers!

Thanks again for your prompt reply but... I have no Windows machine to connect to, nor do I have the CD. I assume the CD goes into a Windows machine as my printer has no CD drive.
Any other way for me to get this machine working again? It seems like I faced this problem at some point in the past but I have no idea how it was resolved then. I might have had a PC then but don't now.
Thanks for other suggestions.

You can install the Smart Utility from this link. But this utility is available only for a windows PC.
So you have to use this printer connected to a Windows PC using USB, install the utility and disable the Smart install.
Only then it would function with the MAC.
Cheers!
