Recently I just swapped the old yellow toner for a new one and got the mesasge: "Remove shipping lock from yellow cartridge". I have already tried all the sugestions from the HP page and got no results. Going back to the old and almost finished yellow cartridge, the printer worked just fine, but when trying the new one again I still get the error message. What shoul I do?

Hi leodaneu,
There are a few things we know about that can cause the remove shipping lock error that you are seeing. Since the error clears when you put the old cartridge back in, we can eliminate most of the other causes.
The one that remains is as follows. Some aftermarket cartridges (not original HP) have electrical properties that are outside the specifications of the machine. This can occur when there are both original HP and non HP cartridges in the tray at the same time, or when all cartridges are non-HP. The engine basically measures a resistance across the internal components to verify that the toner dam was actually removed from the cartridge so that toner is available. The non HP cartridges have a resistance that the system somehow interprets as the toner seal still being on the cartridge.
So I must ask, is your new cartridge an original HP designed for this engine? If so, and if we can verify that it is really an HP cartridge (not a counterfeit) then I must ask is there a non HP cartridge in the tray other than the Yellow you just put in. The system doesn't actually know which cartridge has the resistance problem, but can tell which cartridge was put in new and therefore probably has the seal still remaining so it guesses that one for the color with the shipping lock. Hope this helps solve your problem.

Hey, Dovid, thank you very much for taking your time to answer me, and sorry for taking so long to answer you back.
Unfortunately, I still can't make it work. All the other cartridges are HP original, including the yellow one. Maybe the cartridge is somehow damaged.

OK,
Lets try the next level of those known problems.
The next suggestion is that there may be contact damage (or a contact missing) on that new Yellow, or we've also (sometimes but seldom) seen cartridges that sit low in the tray and miss the alienation engagement lever inside the machine. That would also cause the "remove shipping lock" message. No fix for that except that since it is original HP, you should be able to take it back to the place of purchase for a new cartridge. They might want you to buy one and try it, but since the old one works, and you have all HP in the machine, they should replace the cartridge (since it is still basically brand new) without a problem. If you buy a new one KEEP the Receipt for the refund later when it works....
Please let us know if a new, new cart works in this situation. Thanks, Dovid

I too had this problem with my 1525 printer. I tried all of the above and even, as I had one, another genuine HP cartridge (yellow). All the cartridges were genuine. All contacts cleaned with solvent.
Still no joy so, in desperation, I swapped the yellow and magenta and retried.
Printer thought about it and then said "supplies in wrong order" reasonably enough.
I put them back in correct places - all good, working again fine. Go figure
