Hi HP Community,
I do not have the administrator password, so now my printer has been an expensive paperweight.
I need it to scan documents onto a USB, but literally everything is locked because of this password.
I've tried several soultions, but the most recent attempts are from old posts. Please see directions below (it might help you) and URL below. Unfortunately it did not work. Can someone please help me? Otherwise I'm sending this to ercycling.
Hard Reset
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
- Now check if it works.
I also tried to follow the YouTube video in this post:

Service Menu
I can't get to the service menu because when I click on it I'm asked for the password.
Thank you in advance!
Cheers,

The instructions you listed are considered a Power Reset, which is good for weird errors or problems, to drain the power out of the printer, but it will not clear any passwords. I've sent you a private message with instructions that should clear your admin password.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue.
