In February 2025 I purchased a yearly service plan when speaking with what I thought was an HP rep. I had called the HP number. In March of this year I had a message on the screen and nothing would print.

Called HP and I was told I had to pay a service fee to continue to use the printer, ca $70.00. I was very upset. Placed printer in trash can. Went to local staples to purchase a different printer and was told the is a scam operation being run out of the HP help site. I was transferred last year and this year multiple times. I read on line there is a scam operation being run out of HP help line. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Chances are you were originally on a site that looked like HP but was not. Unfortunately, technology companies represent a big profitable target for scammers who create look alike sites that make you fully believe that you are communicating with HP directly when nothing could be further from the truth. I have tagged the moderators of this board, as HP takes this type of stuff seriously and works hard to shut down  sites like this when they can.

Hi @michaellossic

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I sincerely regret to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating and concerning this situation must have been.

Please note that HP does not authorize third parties to misrepresent themselves as official HP representatives or request unauthorized payments for services outside the terms of a valid support agreement. While we cannot confirm the source of the interaction without reviewing the details, we take reports of suspected fraudulent activity very seriously.

I would request you to please share me the contact details or any case ID issues with the phone call.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I am certain I called the HP Printer Tech Support number that was given me with purchase of printer. I had called the number multiple and received help.

The number I called is: 800.474.6836

The issue was I was transferred multiple times and believe it was part of a HP workers scam that started in February 2025.  I had repeated "disconnect" issues with the computer. I would call and get help. Once I signed up for the one year service contract, that was where I was told I had to pay again a yearly fee.

Thank you, Michael

I really did the the 4-in-1, Internet faxing, scanning, printing, copying.

Wish now I had not tossed it out. Probably buy another.

There are multiple warnings on this site to NOT POST private information like full names and phone numbers. I have asked a moderator to remove this information but be aware that scammers are constantly scanning this site looking for unsuspecting people to post information on this site and then call them pretending to be HP so they can further victimize people. Be suspect of any phone calls you get in response to this post, 99% chance they will be yet another scammer. Someone will typically private message you and be able to confirm that they are an actual HP representative.
