I want to be able to scan multiple pages to PDF, but the scanner doesn't offer that as an option (?!), only tif, gif, jpg.  I have a HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M281fdw.  Please adivse.

PDF should be a standard option both from the control panel and from the HP Scan software.  Please clarify how you are attempting to scan your multipage documents, from the printer control panel, via the HP software or via some other 3rd party application.

If PDF is not an option for you from the control panel of the printer then you can attempt to install a firmware update to resolve the issue.  Print off a configuration page from the control panel of the printer.  Then check out HPs support website for your printer model. The drivers and downloads area will post the most recent firmware version.  If you are out of date then follow the instructions to complete the firmware update.

I also know that in the past some HP Scan installations have missed the PDF scanning option.  In those cases a reinstall of the latest HP software package for your OS will resolve the problem.
