The PRINTER is not communicating with the SMTP server. Editing registry settings on your COMPUTER, a completely separate machine, will not change the printer in any way.

Is it a timeout issue? The HP hunk of dog**bleep** gives no information as to why it's communication has failed. No response? Authorization issue? Who knows.

Unfortunately my client has decided to cheap out and use an HP for this office so... problem needs to be solved please.

Hi HurrDurr,

Your printer does include an "SMTP Communication Report" that can share the issue you're experiencing.

First, try to setup your scan to mail setting.  Once you have hit the error you indiciated, print the SMTP Comm Report.

You can access this report from the control panel by selecting "Settings" > Service > SMTP Comm Report (it's at the bottom).

Hopefully this helps to explain what issue you're running into.  If you need more assistance, please feel free to attach your SMTP Comm Report via forum or personal message.
