Hello @MalickK, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand the issue: your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M126nw prints documents normally, but scanning and copying do not work. When you start a copy, the printer displays “Calibrating” and then returns to “Ready” without producing a copy.

1. Perform a power reset

A power reset can clear a temporary scanner initialization or communication problem.

  • Turn the printer on.
  • While it is on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Disconnect the USB cable, if one is connected.
  • Wait about 2 minutes.
  • Connect the printer directly to a wall outlet, without a power strip or UPS for this test.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and turn it on.
  • Try making a copy again.
  • If the printer completes calibration normally afterward, test both copying and scanning.

2. Clean the scanner glass and calibration area

  • The scanner needs a clean reference area to calibrate correctly. Dust, toner residue, fingerprints, or other contamination on the scanner glass can interfere with the calibration process.
  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Open the scanner lid.
  • Clean the entire scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Pay particular attention to the left edge of the scanner glass and the white reference area underneath the lid.
  • Make sure the glass is completely dry before testing the scanner again.
  • Do not use abrasive materials or spray cleaning fluid directly onto the printer.

3. Check the scanner movement

  • Next, determine whether the scanner mechanism is actually initializing.
  • Place a document on the scanner glass.
  • Start a copy.
  • Listen for the scanner mechanism and observe whether the scanner light comes on and moves underneath the glass.
  • If the scanner does not illuminate or move, or if it moves briefly and then stops, makes unusual grinding/jamming noises, or repeatedly returns to Ready, this points more strongly toward a mechanical or scanner-hardware problem.

If the power reset and scanner cleaning do not help, the next step is to have the scanner assembly and its internal connections inspected by a qualified technician.

If you can provide the result of the scanner movement test whether the scanner light comes on, whether it moves, and whether you hear any unusual noise that will help narrow down whether this is a calibration, mechanical, or hardware issue.

Have a great day!
