I tried to print and every attempt is met with a HP 49 print service error. I recently changed my SSID so I reconnected the printer to the network successfully. I had already updated the firmware but wanted to eliminate that as an issue. I reinstalled the firmware through the network. Every time I attempt to print I receive the HP 49 print service error with the message to restart. It restarts, find the network. I try and print again, and the error repeats. This just started happening. We were always able to print through our network. I even reinstalled the printer on my Mac. The Mac found the printer on the network and installed it. I have rebooted my computer and the router. The printer is connected to the network. Every time I try to print I get the HP 49 print service error with instructions to restart. The printer restarts by itself and reconnects to the network.

Hi  @FrankC7

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern on how  it must be to keep seeing that Service Error 49 loop every time you try to print, especially after you’ve already gone through firmware updates, network reconnections, and reinstallations. You’ve clearly put in a lot of effort already, and I want to help narrow  down this issue :

Could you kindly share the exact printer model ?

Can you kindly confirm the below details :

Do you see the error only when printing from your Mac, or does it also happen if you try printing from another device (like a phone or Windows PC)?

Are you printing a specific type of file (PDF, Word, image), or does the error occur with any document?

Below are few steps you can try :

  1. Test with USB connection: Temporarily connect the printer directly to your Mac via USB and try printing. This helps confirm if the issue is network-related.
  2. Clear print queue: Make sure no stuck jobs are pending in the Mac’s print queue before sending a fresh test page.
  3. Disable advanced printing features: On your Mac’s printer settings, turn off “Advanced Printing Features” or “Bidirectional Support” if available.
  4. Print internal test page: Use the printer’s control panel to print a configuration or demo page. If this works, the issue is likely with the print job data coming from the Mac.

I hope this helps.
