How can I set up LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw printer/scanner to work both in wireless (NVP) and USB mode?

The installation appears to treat the two possibilities as exclusive, but if the WiFi is not available, I would like to resort quickly to a fool-proof USB wired option.

Can anyone advise?

Greetings, @,

Unfortunately, it appears that Windows does not have a default driver for the device as complex as LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw (printer/scanner/copier). Furthermore, the driver included in the internal memory of the device appears not to be compatible with the system (I bought it some years ago and I have a computer with Win10). None-the-less, I found a different solution. For the community, I shall share my successfull installation case:

Overall, I used two different installation packages from the HP support page at

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-100-color-mfp-m175/4208157/model/42...

... as follows:

1) Install the device for WIRELESS configuration using HP LaserJet Pro M175nw Full Solution Software and Driver

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL38952/kj-95222-3/CLJ_MFP_M175_N_sw_win_full_solution-acf...

After setting up the printer and the scanner completely ...

2) Install the device for USB configuration using HP LaserJet Pro M175nw Basic Solution Software and Driver

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL38955/kj-95289-2/CLJ_MFP_M175_N_sw_win_basic-acf.exe

This second "partial installation" does not perform the uninstall of the previous installation unlike in the case when I used the full installation two times in row with the different settings.

Even after the multiple restarts, both configurations work (I was playing with plugging and unplugging the USB cable and enabling and disabling the WiFi quite a bit). There are, however, a few notes to add ...

I named my devices LaserJet ... 175nw WiFi and LaserJet ... 175nw USB to differenciate them mainly in the printer dialog. It is not too useful for the scan ...

Challenge when trying to scan:

There is a challenge when accessing the scanner the "standard" Win10 way going though Settings / Devices / Printers & Scanners. Both instances' links in the Printers & scanners list (Wifi and USB) start the HP Smart dialog that appears to use the last used connection (USB vs. WiFi) to the device, regardless whether it is currently available or not. In the unfavourable situation (the last used connection is currently not available) gets me to a dead end.

I found, however, a workaround by accessing the devices through Settings / Devices / Bluetooths & other devices and then using the link Devices & Printers in the Related settings list - this opens the standard Windows dialog: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. Both instances of the device are displayed and the shading indicates which connection is available. Nevertheless, a doubleclick on either will open the identical device dialog (applicable to both connections). Only after selecting "Scan a Document or Photo" the computer chooses the access path to the scanner that is actually currently available (WiFi or USB) or, if both are available, asks which shall be used (showing a basic selection dialog in which it list twice the name of the device, the second differentiating with #2, which, in my case corresponds to the USB configuration).

It is somewhat hairy, but it works and it certainly answers my initial requirement, i.e. configure LaserJet 100 MFP M175nw both for wireless and USB printing and scanning so that I can use the WiFi access and, if the WiFi fails, to use the device immediately with the USB connection.

Thank you for support and mainly for inspiration that allowed me to find a solution. Hopefully, the process described above will be useful to some other users of this blog.

Greetings @PetrV

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are looking to know if you can configure the printer on your computer over both USB and wireless, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Run the printer setup on your computer and configure the printer over USB.

Once the printer is working fine over USB.

Run the printer setup again and add the printer as wireless.

This would create 2 icons for the printer.

You can rename it to USB and Wireless respectively, that way it will be easy for you to select the mode of printing of your choice.

Click here to download the user guide of your printer.

Let me know if this helped.

I have done that. Problem is that when you run the installation the second time (for wireless), the first automatic step is to uninstall the USB drivers, then an automatic restart of the computer and only after that an installation of the wireless. In the printer window both instances of he printer remain, but the original (USB) informs of an absence of the printer driver.

Does it work differently for you?

Thanks for the reply and providing more information.

Let's uninstall the printer completely from your computer first.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right-click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers

Setup the printer for wireless first using the full feature software.

Once you are able to print over wireless.

Connect the printer to your computer using a USB.

Install the printer over USB with Windows built-in drivers. This way the software will not conflict with each other. Click here

Let me know if this helped.

I tryed this on Win 7 and Win10. The Win7 alows to install only the USB version , stops at 99% with the wireless version , when is suposed to take itself the wifi settings from the PC .The Windows 10 stops at 99 with both drivers. I tryed the manual way , in different ways . I tryed factory reset , hard reset . Only option is the sladge hammer now :robotmad: . Useless junk , never Hp again.
